Through the kindness of people, St. Martin Centre is able to help people who are desperate. We have helped people in kind, and people who needed assistance in education. St. Martin Centre is an apostolate within the Dominican Order. Several of our brothers are involved in special ministries to people who are disadvantaged in one way or another. We believe it is entirely possible to make the St. Martin Centre an instrument in serving the disadvantaged and vulnerable people.
One such group is the deaf community which is ministered to by Fr Mark James OP (pictured right with deaf and blind priest Fr Cyril Axelrod). Something about his ministry can be seen in the newsletter of April 2017. It is a sad reflection on the Catholic Church that this community has been neglected in some way with deaf people leaving the church and joining those churches which make them feel welcome . We really need to reinforce this ministry and for this we are according upon you . These are the kind of people that St. Martin would have ministered to in his life and we believe that we would be continuing this worthy ministry. We are encouraging you to make regular financial contributions to St. Martin Centre for this ministry and we thank you in anticipation.
Should you need any clarification please contact Mavis at the office 011 362-4482 or Fr Emil at 011 663-4700. We really appeal to your generosity and believe that you will be greatly blessed.
This inspiring newsletter is published every two months. We are truly blessed in having Mr. John Shalala printing it free of charge at Jetline. It is sent to everybody on our database and is available at our Dominican parishes in Springs, Welkom and at our priory in Pietermaritzburg. Parishes dedicated to St. Martin de Porres in the Johannesburg archdiocese, also receive it. We would be very happy to make these available to all parishes dedicated to St. Martin de Porres. If you are in one such parish and would like to receive it please contact our office (0113624482). The newsletter is also available on our website as well as on the website of www.radioveritas.co.za
One way in which you can help the apostolate of St. Martin de Porres is by sending requests for masses to be said to our office. The usual stipend is at least R 50 and, out of your generosity, this could be increased at will. It is a fact that in all the offices of St. Martin around the world, many people send stipends for masses to be said. The office of St. Martin in Ireland has helped us considerably in the past. By sending in your stipends and intentions, you will be remembered by the priests who celebrate these masses.
Many people who have requested the intercession of St. Martin have been helped. We encourage those people to send us a brief description of their situation and answer to prayer, which we will publish for the inspiration of people. Be assured that these messages can be anonymous, if so wished. Photographs are always welcome.
